Shanah Tovah USYers,
As we step into the new year of 5786, I want to wish each and every one of you a sweet, meaningful, and inspiring Rosh Hashanah. This is a sacred time on our calendar, one that invites us to pause and reflect, but also to look forward with hope and purpose.
Rosh Hashanah reminds us that we don’t have to be defined by who we were yesterday. Judaism gives us the gift of renewal; the belief that we can learn, grow, and evolve. Whatever this past year brought for you, whether it was moments of joy and connection or challenges and setbacks, this is your opportunity to let go of what no longer serves you and open your heart to what’s ahead.
As USYers, we are constantly growing as individuals and as a movement. Over the past year, we’ve shared unforgettable experiences, shown up for our communities, and created powerful Jewish spaces where teens can be themselves. But what excites me most is not what we’ve already done. It’s what comes next.
This year, I challenge all of us to dream bigger. Let’s be bold in our leadership, intentional in our actions, and open to transformation. Let’s bring our full selves into every chapter event, every board meeting, every Shabbat dinner, every moment of connection. Let’s let go of fear and self-doubt and step confidently into who we are becoming, not just as USYers but as Jews and as leaders.
Teshuvah, the central theme of this season, is not just about saying sorry or righting wrongs. It’s about turning: returning to our values, to our purpose, and to the best version of ourselves. That process isn’t easy, but it’s what makes this time of year so powerful. We are given permission to begin again.
So as we dip our apples in honey and hear the call of the shofar, I hope you feel a sense of possibility. You are part of something bigger than yourself, a movement that believes in the power of Jewish teens to shape the future.
May this year be filled with new opportunities, meaningful connections, and the courage to move forward with open hearts. I am so grateful to be on this journey with all of you and I can’t wait to see how we grow together in 5786.
