Guiding Questions: Daniel 10

This is part of the Tanakh Yomi Project.

  1. Why does the text find it necessary to indicate that “Daniel, was called Belteshazzar” unless, possibly, Daniel 10 comes from another author or, the phrase was added by an editor?
  2. The end of Daniel 10:1 deals with “the thing was true” and “the thing could be understood in a vision” — does this explain the comment that “the meaning is uncertain?”
  3. Why, according to Daniel 10:2-3 was Daniel in mourning?
  4. Once again, in Daniel 10:5, reference is made to “a man” but, from the description which follows, is it clear whether this was a human shape or a human being?
  5. Is there any indication in Daniel 10:7-11 why Daniel is the only one who “saw the vision” and why he is described as a “precious man?”
  6. In Daniel 10:14, what is the purpose of the “messenger?”
  7. In Daniel 10:21, is there any explanation of the “Book of Truth?”
