Elul teaches us to pay attention to time. The Psalmist prays: “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” (Psalm 90:12). As the month winds down and we shift to the intensity of the month of Tishrei, we are reminded that the gift of this season is its urgency. Time is short, but that is what makes it precious.
When have the days slipped by without notice? What would it look like to inhabit today with full presence?
Kavanah: Let the closing days of Elul teach you to treasure the time you have.
